When do UC Berkeley release their admissions decisions?
I'm a current high school senior and I'm really anxious about hearing back from the UCs, especially Berkeley. My friends and I keep checking the forums and admissions timelines, but we can't seem to find an exact date for when decisions are usually announced. Some people say it's in March, but others have told me it might be earlier or later.
Can anyone who applied in previous years please share when UC Berkeley typically posts their results? Also, does it matter if you applied for a particular major or program, or do all decisions come out at the same time? I'm trying to plan for other schools too, so knowing the timing would really help.

UC Berkeley usually releases freshman regular decision admissions results in late March. Over the past several years, most applicants have received their decisions between March 24th and March 30th. For the Fall 2023 cycle, results came out on March 30th, while in previous years, they were announced around March 25th-27th. There may be a slight variation each year, but you can generally expect news towards the end of March.
Decisions for all majors and most programs are typically released at the same time. This means whether you applied to the College of Letters & Science, College of Engineering, or any other college or major, everyone usually gets their result on the same date. There aren’t separate announcements for majors, with the exception of a few very specialized programs (for example, special dual-degree programs or some transfer results may differ, but for freshmen regular admits, it’s all together).
Keep in mind that you should monitor the email address you used in your application, as Berkeley will often send a notification that your decision is available in your application portal. Also, checking the portal directly is a good idea, as notifications can sometimes end up in spam folders.
To give you an example: I applied to Berkeley a couple of cycles ago for Computer Science, and my friends who applied to different majors like Political Science and Business all received their decisions simultaneously on the same Friday evening in late March. Everyone was anxiously refreshing their emails and portals around the rumored date, and once the official word went out on some of the forums, the news spread pretty quickly.
If you’re planning for other applications or want to weigh financial aid offers, you’ll still have time before the national decision deadline on May 1st. Good luck, and hopefully the wait won’t be too much longer!
