Is Fordham or Iona better for finance careers?
I’m a high school senior trying to decide between Fordham and Iona, and I’m interested in studying finance. I know both are in New York, but I’m having trouble figuring out which one has the stronger reputation for getting students into finance jobs and internships.
I’m mostly trying to understand which school would be the better choice if my goal is to break into the finance industry after college.

Fordham has the clearer edge for finance careers. Its Gabelli School of Business is much better known in New York finance circles, and Fordham’s Manhattan presence gives students more direct access to internships during the school year, alumni events, and recruiting opportunities tied to the city’s business community.
One big differentiator is employer visibility. Fordham, especially through Gabelli, has a stronger reputation with firms that recruit in finance, and that matters when you are trying to land early internships or get your resume noticed. Being connected to a larger, more established business school network can make a real difference in fields like investment banking, asset management, corporate finance, and financial services.
Location also plays out differently in practice. Fordham’s Lincoln Center campus puts students in Manhattan, which is especially useful for part-time internships during the semester, coffee chats, and attending finance-related programming without a long commute. Even students based at Rose Hill still benefit from regular access to the city and a school culture that is more plugged into New York employers.
Iona can still work, especially for a student who is proactive, cost-conscious, or looking at broader business paths, but it does not carry the same finance-specific brand recognition. Its opportunities are more likely to depend on individual hustle rather than a built-in recruiting pipeline.
For a student focused specifically on breaking into finance after college, Fordham is the stronger choice.
