Is Purdue or Fordham better for finance careers?
I’m trying to decide between Purdue and Fordham and I’m interested in finance after college. I know both schools have strong reputations in different ways, but I’m not sure which one gives students a better shot at landing finance jobs and building a network.
I’m mainly trying to understand which school is generally seen as stronger for finance careers.

For finance specifically, Fordham usually has the clearer advantage. Its New York City location puts students much closer to internships during the school year, alumni working across banking and asset management, and the day-to-day recruiting ecosystem that matters a lot in finance. Purdue is a respected university with strong overall outcomes, but it is much more known for engineering, STEM, and quantitative fields than for being a finance pipeline.
Fordham tends to make the most sense for a student who wants frequent access to internships, networking events, and alumni contacts while still in college. Being in NYC matters because many finance students build momentum through part-time or semester internships, coffee chats, and in-person recruiting connections, not just summer roles. If your goal includes investment banking, corporate finance in New York, wealth management, or finance roles where networking is central, Fordham gives you a more direct environment for that.
Purdue fits better for a student who wants a broader big-state-school experience, likes a campus-centered college life, and may want finance with a more quantitative or business-analytics angle. It can still lead to strong finance outcomes, especially in corporate finance, financial analysis, operations-linked business roles, and jobs with large national employers. Purdue’s brand is powerful, but in finance it does not carry the same location-based advantage or Wall Street adjacency that Fordham has.
A lot depends on the exact kind of finance career you mean. For front-office or NYC-network-driven paths, Fordham is usually seen as stronger because access and relationships matter so much. For a student who is less tied to New York finance and more interested in a traditional campus experience with solid business options, Purdue can still work well, but it is not the school most people would point to first for finance recruiting.
