Which is better for finance: Loyola Marymount University or Villanova University?

I’m trying to compare Loyola Marymount and Villanova as possible colleges if I want to study finance. I know both have strong reputations in different ways, but I’m having trouble figuring out which one is generally better for preparing students for careers in finance.

I’m mainly interested in things like the strength of the business program, recruiting opportunities, and how well each school is viewed by employers.

For finance, Villanova is usually the stronger option. Its business school has a more established national reputation in finance, it sits much closer to the East Coast finance pipeline, and employers in banking, investment management, and corporate finance tend to know Villanova especially well. Loyola Marymount can still work very well, but it makes the most sense for students who want to build a career in Los Angeles or on the West Coast rather than aiming broadly at traditional finance recruiting.

Villanova fits the student who wants a business program that is especially visible to finance employers and alumni in the Northeast. The Villanova School of Business is one of the university’s clearest strengths, and finance is a field where alumni connections, employer familiarity, and internship access matter a lot. Being near Philadelphia also helps for internships during the school year, and the New York connection is much more natural from Villanova than from LMU.

LMU makes more sense for a student who wants finance within a Southern California setting and values access to LA industries, including entertainment, real estate, private wealth, and corporate finance roles. Its location is a real asset, and local networking can be strong, but the finance recruiting scene is not viewed as being on the same level as Villanova’s.

If your priority is the broadest finance recruiting reach and the most established finance brand, Villanova has the edge. If you are specifically drawn to Los Angeles and can see yourself building your network there from day one, LMU becomes more compelling, but for finance alone, Villanova is the clearer pick.
