Is Cornell or NYU better for New York internships?

NYU has the edge for New York internships because you are already in the city where many internships happen, and that changes the day-to-day reality of recruiting. Being in Manhattan makes it much easier to do part-time internships during the semester, attend networking events after class, and build relationships with employers without needing to travel. For practical access specifically to NYC opportunities, NYU is usually the more convenient platform.

Location is the biggest differentiator. At NYU, students can often combine coursework with in-semester internships, which matters in fields like finance, media, marketing, fashion, tech, startups, and entertainment where employers value availability during the academic year. Cornell students absolutely get NYC internships too, but Ithaca makes spontaneous coffee chats, semester-long office internships, and last-minute networking much harder.

Recruiting structure is the next difference. Cornell has a very strong alumni network and excellent employer recognition. That can translate into strong internship outcomes, but it often works through more formal pipelines, summer recruiting, and planned trips to the city rather than constant physical proximity.

The type of internship access also feels different. NYU tends to offer more immediate volume and variety because students can plug directly into the city’s ecosystem during the semester. Cornell can still be extremely powerful for highly structured recruiting channels, especially if you are targeting employers that actively recruit from Cornell, but for hands-on access to New York internships while you are in college, NYU is the clearer advantage.
