Purdue vs Binghamton for finance: which is better for recruiting and career outcomes?

I’m trying to decide between Purdue and Binghamton for finance and keep going back and forth. Both seem like solid options, but I’m mostly thinking about which one gives better access to internships, recruiting, and job outcomes after graduation.

I want to study finance and eventually work in a business-related role, so I’m trying to choose the school that would be the stronger long-term choice.

For finance, Purdue usually has the broader overall business recruiting platform, while Binghamton can make a lot of sense if you want stronger proximity to the New York market and are ready to hustle for opportunities there. Binghamton benefits from being in the SUNY system and from easier geographic access to NYC internships and networking, which matters if your finance goal is specifically tied to New York.

The student who tends to do well at Purdue is someone who wants a bigger, more established business school environment with lots of employer activity across industries, not just one finance path. Purdue is especially attractive if you might end up liking corporate finance, FP&A, treasury, operations finance, or business analytics as much as traditional Wall Street-style roles. Its brand is well known nationally, and that helps for recruiting outside the Northeast.

Binghamton fits the student who is focused on keeping costs down, wants to build toward NYC recruiting, and is comfortable being proactive. It does place students into finance and business roles, but the path can be more self-directed, especially for highly selective front-office outcomes. Being closer to New York can help with coffee chats, semester networking, and internships during the school year in a way Purdue cannot match as easily.

If your definition of finance is broad and you want the safer all-around recruiting setup, I’d lean Purdue. If your priority is New York access and Binghamton is meaningfully cheaper, that can absolutely outweigh Purdue, especially for roles where debt matters more than prestige. For long-term career outcomes, the difference is less about one school being decisively superior and more about whether you want national corporate recruiting with a bigger platform or a lower-cost route with better proximity to NYC finance.
