Brandeis or Rutgers for internships: which school has better internship opportunities and access?

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale and location: Rutgers gives you access to a much larger regional job market and a bigger alumni footprint, while Brandeis offers a smaller, more hands-on environment with strong access to Boston-area opportunities. For sheer volume of internships during the school year, Rutgers usually has the edge because of its proximity to New York City, New Jersey corporate hubs, and nearby public-sector and healthcare employers. Brandeis is well placed for internships too, especially in greater Boston, but the network is smaller and the range of opportunities can feel a bit narrower depending on your field.

Rutgers benefits from being a very large public university with multiple pipelines into industries like business, tech, healthcare, government, media, and pharma. If you are proactive, it is realistic to find semester internships by train or car, especially from New Brunswick. The alumni base is extensive, and that matters when you are not already connected because more employers are familiar with Rutgers and recruit there at scale.

Brandeis has advantages that matter too. Its smaller size can make it easier to build close relationships with professors, advisors, and career staff, which can help with referrals and research-based opportunities. In fields like nonprofit work, policy, academia, and some life sciences or healthcare-related paths, the Boston area can be very useful, and Brandeis students can benefit from a more personalized campus experience.

If the question is overall internship access, Rutgers comes out ahead for most students.
