Which is better for internships, Brandeis or George Washington University?

The biggest practical tradeoff is location versus campus structure: George Washington gives you much easier access to internships during the school year because it sits in the middle of Washington, DC, while Brandeis offers strong support and Boston-area access but usually with a bit more travel and planning. At GW, students can more realistically intern part time during the semester with government agencies, nonprofits, media, policy groups, think tanks, hospitals, and international organizations nearby. Brandeis benefits from the broader Boston academic and biotech ecosystem, but it does not have the same built-in day-to-day internship convenience that GW has.

For internship access alone, GW has the clearer edge. Its DC location matters in a very practical way: students often build experience earlier and more continuously because opportunities are woven into the school year, not just summers. That is especially valuable if you are interested in politics, international affairs, public policy, journalism, public health, law-related work, or nonprofit work.

Brandeis is still a solid option, especially for students leaning toward research, pre-med, psychology, business, or fields that connect well to Boston and Cambridge. The university has a strong academic reputation and good faculty access, which can help with research assistant roles and recommendation-building. But for many students, internships there are more dependent on commuting into Boston, using summers strategically, or competing within a large metro area that is not right outside the front door in the same way DC is for GW.
