Is UVA or Georgetown better for Washington, DC internships and networking?

For Washington, DC internships and networking specifically, Georgetown has the clearer edge. If balancing classes with part-time internships during the week matters a lot, Georgetown makes that much easier.

Georgetown fits students who want DC to be part of everyday college life, not just a summer destination.

UVA is still very strong, especially if you want a classic college campus experience and are comfortable treating DC more as a targeted internship market than a daily extension of campus. UVA’s alumni network is powerful and loyal, and students absolutely land strong DC internships, particularly in consulting, finance, law, government, and public service. But from Charlottesville, semester-time internships in DC are much less convenient, so UVA students often rely more on summers, school breaks, or occasional trips for networking.

Georgetown also tends to be the more natural environment for students who want frequent exposure to speakers, policy events, and professional communities throughout the academic year. At UVA, those opportunities exist, but they are not embedded in the same way because the city itself is not right outside campus.

So if your priority is maximizing easy, regular access to DC internships while in school, Georgetown is the more advantageous setup. UVA can still get you to the same city and many of the same industries, but it usually requires more planning and less day-to-day immediacy.
