Is University of Vermont or Indiana University better for finance careers?
I'm trying to decide between the University of Vermont and Indiana University for undergrad, and I want to go into finance after college. Both schools seem like decent fits academically, but I keep hearing that reputation, recruiting, and alumni network can matter a lot for finance.
I am mainly trying to understand which school would give me a stronger path into finance careers after graduation.

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Indiana gives you a much deeper pipeline into finance recruiting, while Vermont offers a smaller, more regional path that can still work but usually requires more self-directed networking. For finance specifically, Indiana’s Kelley School of Business has much stronger name recognition with employers, a larger alumni base in business, and more established recruiting channels for banking, corporate finance, and related roles. Vermont can place students into finance jobs, especially in the Northeast, but it does not have the same national pull in the field.
If your goal is to maximize access to finance careers, Indiana is the clearer advantage. Kelley is one of the best-known undergraduate business schools in the country, and that matters in a field where employer familiarity, structured recruiting, and alumni outreach often shape early opportunities. Students there typically have access to more finance-focused student organizations, more on-campus employer activity, and more classmates aiming for the same industries.
At Vermont, the path is more likely to depend on your own hustle, internships, and regional networking. That is not a bad setup if you prefer the school for other reasons and are targeting a more local route, but it is less powerful if you are hoping for broad finance recruiting right out of college. The difference is especially noticeable for competitive tracks like investment banking, asset management, and certain corporate finance leadership programs.
Also compare cost, because paying much more for one school can change the equation if outcomes are not dramatically different for the specific jobs you want.
