For computer science specifically, UT Dallas usually has the stronger overall reputation among students and employers in Texas tech circles, while UIC benefits from being in Chicago with direct access to internships during the school year. Both can get you to good outcomes in CS, but the day-to-day experience is noticeably different.

UT Dallas has built a strong identity around computing, engineering, and applied math, and CS is one of the areas people most often point to when they talk about the school’s academic strengths. It tends to feel more focused on STEM, and many students like that the university puts a lot of energy into technical programs, research, and recruiting pipelines connected to the Dallas-Fort Worth job market. If you want a campus where CS is very central to the school’s profile, UT Dallas has an edge.

UIC’s CS program is also respected, and its biggest advantage is location.
