UT Dallas is still a very solid CS choice, especially for students who want a larger tech-focused campus and strong ties to the Dallas-Fort Worth job market.

Rice tends to fit the student who wants a more intimate academic experience. CS students there benefit from close faculty access, easier relationship-building for research and recommendations, and a residential college system that creates a tight campus community. For someone who values high-touch advising and wants rigorous academics in a smaller setting, Rice has a real edge.

UT Dallas makes a lot of sense for the student who wants scale and direct industry orientation. Its computer science program is well known in Texas, the student body includes many technically focused peers, and the school has strong connections to employers in the DFW area. That can translate into plenty of internship access, especially for students targeting software engineering or corporate tech roles.

For career outcomes, both can lead to strong jobs, but Rice tends to carry more national prestige and can open doors a bit more broadly across regions and industries. UT Dallas performs especially well for students who are proactive and want to take advantage of the local tech ecosystem, but the experience can feel more commuter-oriented and less traditionally residential.

If the question is strongest CS program overall across academics, opportunities, and long-term signaling, Rice comes out ahead. If affordability, practical recruiting access in North Texas, or preference for a bigger tech-heavy environment matters more, UT Dallas is an excellent alternative.
