UC Berkeley vs Ohio State for business: which is better for undergrad career opportunities?

I’m trying to choose between UC Berkeley and Ohio State for business, and I keep seeing different opinions about which one has stronger career opportunities. I’m mainly thinking about internships, recruiting, and how well each school helps students break into finance, consulting, or corporate business roles.

I’m not looking for a ranking in general, just which school tends to give undergrads better business career outcomes.

For undergraduate business career opportunities, UC Berkeley usually opens more doors, especially for finance, consulting, and high-selectivity corporate roles. Berkeley’s location near San Francisco and Silicon Valley matters, and so does the strength of Haas as a target or semi-target for many employers. If your goal is to maximize access to top-tier recruiting pipelines right out of college, Berkeley tends to offer the stronger platform.

Berkeley fits the student who wants to compete for selective internships early, is comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and is interested in finance, consulting, tech-business, product, or startup-adjacent roles. Employers in the Bay Area recruit there heavily, and the alumni network in West Coast business and tech is especially valuable. Even outside California, the Berkeley name carries a lot of weight in business circles.

Ohio State makes more sense for a student who wants solid access to corporate business careers in a large, well-supported university setting, especially in the Midwest. Fisher has strong connections with major companies, and Ohio State’s huge alumni base can be very useful for accounting, marketing, operations, supply chain, and mainstream corporate finance paths. It can absolutely lead to strong outcomes, but the recruiting is usually less concentrated at the highest tier than what Berkeley can offer.

For finance specifically, Berkeley has a clearer edge for highly competitive paths like investment banking and buy-side adjacent roles. For consulting, Berkeley also tends to have stronger access to top firms, though Ohio State can still place well, particularly for regional offices and broader business advisory work.
