Is the University of San Diego or Fordham better for marketing?

Its Gabelli School of Business is well known, marketing is a visible business pathway there, and being in New York gives students regular access to internships during the school year, not just in the summer. For a field like marketing, where agency, media, fashion, finance, tech, and consumer brands all hire in one city, that matters a lot.

Fordham makes the most sense for a student who wants a more career-driven environment and expects location to be part of the education. You would likely have more opportunities to build experience early through part-time internships, networking events, alumni connections, and employer visits tied to NYC. That is especially useful if you are interested in advertising, digital marketing, brand strategy, media, luxury, or anything client-facing.

USD is still a solid option, especially for someone who wants a more relaxed campus feel and likes the West Coast setting. The Knauss School of Business has a good reputation, and San Diego offers access to business, tourism, lifestyle brands, biotech, startups, and sports-related marketing. The experience can feel more personal and less intense than Fordham’s, which some students prefer.

USD may fit better if you want smaller-school energy, a traditional residential campus, and a college experience that feels less tied to a major city grind. You can still get internships, but they may be a bit more dependent on your own outreach, summer timing, and local industry fit.

So if “better for marketing” means strongest overall pipeline in classes-to-internships-to-jobs, Fordham has the advantage. If you value campus lifestyle just as much and can see yourself pursuing marketing in Southern California industries, USD remains very worthwhile.
