Is the University of San Diego or Fordham worth the cost?

The biggest practical tradeoff is location: Fordham provides access to New York City internships during the academic year, while the University of San Diego offers a residential Southern California experience.

Neither school’s name alone guarantees that a large amount of debt will pay off. Compare each school’s four-year net price after grants, not its published tuition, and separate federal student loans from parent loans or private loans.

Also compare the specific programs you would enter, likely internship access, graduation outcomes for your intended field, and whether you would actively use each city’s opportunities. At Fordham, campus matters: Lincoln Center places students directly in Manhattan, while Rose Hill is in the Bronx and has a more traditional campus environment. At USD, ask how readily students secure internships beyond campus and whether you would be comfortable beginning to network early in the San Diego market.

Fordham is worth a higher price only when its New York access clearly supports your academic and career plan, while USD can justify a premium when you genuinely want its San Diego-based network and campus setting. If a less expensive college leaves you with far less debt and offers a comparable program and internship path, that financial advantage is likely more valuable than either school’s brand name.
