Is RPI or the University of Michigan more fun for undergrads?

For most undergrads, Michigan will feel much more fun in the broad, social, campus-energy sense. Ann Arbor has a classic big-college atmosphere with major sports, packed student organizations, constant events, and a town built around student life. RPI can still be enjoyable, but its social scene is usually described as smaller, more niche, and more dependent on finding your particular group.

Michigan tends to suit students who want a busy campus without having to work hard to create the fun themselves. Football Saturdays, active Greek life, concerts, performances, clubs, and a lively downtown all make it easier for an average student to stumble into things to do. The size helps too: there are enough people and subcultures that many students can find both high-energy social spaces and quieter friend groups.

RPI is more appealing for someone who likes a tighter, more tech-focused environment and does not need the social scene to be the center of college life. The campus culture leans more intense and academically driven, and Troy is not going to offer the same all-encompassing college-town feel as Ann Arbor. Students who are happiest there often build fun through close friends, project teams, gaming, clubs, or shared academic interests rather than through a huge campus-wide buzz.

If by fun you mean visible school spirit, lots of people out and about, easy access to events, and a stronger sense that something is always happening, Michigan has the clearer edge. If you prefer a smaller scene where social life feels more personal and less overwhelming, RPI can work, but it is usually not the school people mean when they talk about a big, socially vibrant undergraduate experience.
