USC or Ohio State for marketing: which is the better school overall?
I’m trying to narrow down my college list and both USC and Ohio State are on it because I want to study marketing. I know they’re very different schools, so I’m mostly trying to figure out which one is generally better for a marketing major in terms of reputation and overall opportunities.
I’m a junior and want a place that would give me a strong foundation for internships and getting a job after college.

For marketing, USC usually carries the stronger national brand and a more direct pipeline into high-profile internships, especially in Los Angeles and industries like entertainment, media, tech, and consumer brands. Ohio State is still a very solid option, but it tends to shine more for students who want a large public-university environment, broad recruiting access, and potentially better value. If you are asking which school is viewed as more prestigious overall for marketing-related opportunities, USC usually has the edge.
USC is a strong match for a student who wants a business school experience with a lot of networking built in. The Marshall School of Business is well known, and USC’s alumni network is one of the school’s biggest advantages. For marketing, that matters because internships and early jobs often come through connections, referrals, and access to companies in nearby industries. Being in Los Angeles also helps if you are interested in brand management tied to entertainment, digital marketing, fashion, sports, or startups.
Ohio State makes more sense for a student who wants the resources of a huge campus and the reach of a major public university. Fisher College of Business is respected, and Ohio State has strong employer relationships, a large alumni base, and lots of student organizations, case competitions, and recruiting activity. For someone who is self-directed and comfortable navigating a bigger system, there can be a lot of opportunity there, including access to internships in Columbus and with major national employers.
In terms of overall opportunities after graduation, both can get you to strong outcomes, but USC often offers a more concentrated advantage in brand name and networking. Ohio State can absolutely lead to great marketing jobs too, especially if cost matters and you take advantage of the scale of the school. The real difference is that USC tends to offer a more polished, higher-visibility path, while Ohio State offers a broader, more affordable platform that rewards initiative.
