USC vs. Stanford: Which is better for a career in startups?

Stanford offers the deeper long-term startup ecosystem for someone whose central goal is to found or join an early-stage company. Its location in Silicon Valley puts students unusually close to founders, venture firms, accelerators, and startup employers throughout the academic year.

On campus, entrepreneurship is integrated into both coursework and student life through resources such as the Stanford Technology Ventures Program, BASES, and Stanford eCorner. StartX, the university-affiliated accelerator community, is another meaningful connection point for eligible Stanford founders and alumni.

USC is still a credible place to pursue entrepreneurship, especially through the Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, Viterbi, and Los Angeles’s growing media, consumer, health, aerospace, and technology scenes. Its Trojan network is notably active and loyal, and LA can be an appealing market for startups tied to entertainment, creators, branding, or Southern California industries. But for the broadest exposure to experienced startup operators, technical cofounders, and venture capital, Stanford has the more concentrated environment.
