Is the University of Minnesota or UT Austin more prestigious for undergrad admissions and reputation?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that UT Austin carries a stronger national reputation for undergraduate admissions selectivity and overall academic prestige, while the University of Minnesota is still a well-regarded flagship public university but is usually seen as less selective and less prominent outside some of its strongest programs. UT Austin has especially strong name recognition in engineering, business, computer science, and the public-policy/government space, and its location in Austin adds to its visibility with employers and internships. Minnesota has real strengths too, particularly in research, STEM, health-related areas, and certain honors opportunities, but in broad reputation conversations it is not usually placed on the same tier as UT Austin.
