Notre Dame or Boston College for accounting: which is the better choice?

The biggest practical tradeoff is national business reach versus direct accounting specialization. Notre Dame tends to carry broader national brand power with very strong recruiting across consulting, finance, and Big Four accounting, while Boston College offers a more clearly defined undergraduate accounting path through the Carroll School of Management. If you already know accounting is the goal, BC can feel more immediately tailored; if you want accounting with more flexibility to pivot within business, Notre Dame often has the edge.

For accounting specifically, Boston College is very well regarded and has long-standing strength in undergraduate business education. Carroll is one of the more established undergrad business schools in the country, and BC’s location near Boston creates easy access to internships, alumni connections, and recruiting from accounting firms during the school year. That proximity matters more in accounting than students sometimes realize, especially for building experience early.

Notre Dame also places very well into accounting and has an exceptionally loyal alumni network. Employers know the Mendoza College of Business well, and Notre Dame’s name tends to travel a bit more strongly outside the Northeast. If you may want to combine accounting with broader business options or you care a lot about a national alumni base, that is a meaningful advantage.

If your priority is becoming an accountant and starting that career with strong recruiting and urban internship access, Boston College is probably the cleaner choice. If you want accounting but also value a wider national brand and more room to shift into adjacent business paths, I’d lean Notre Dame.
