Notre Dame or Boston College for finance careers?
I’m trying to decide between Notre Dame and Boston College and I’m interested in finance after college. Both schools seem to have strong reputations, but I’m not sure which one tends to be better for breaking into finance careers.
I’m mostly looking at overall recruiting strength, alumni network, and how well each school is viewed by employers in finance.

For finance, Notre Dame usually has the edge in overall reach and recruiting power, especially if you are aiming at investment banking, larger national firms, or a network that extends strongly beyond one region. The Mendoza College of Business is very well regarded, Notre Dame’s alumni base is famously loyal, and the school tends to place well into finance roles in cities like Chicago and New York. Boston College is also very credible in finance, but its biggest advantage is often its especially strong position in the Boston market and across the Northeast.
Notre Dame tends to fit the student who wants a broad, high-energy alumni network that opens doors across industries and geographies. In finance, that matters because so much hiring still happens through alumni outreach, club pipelines, and older students helping younger ones break in. Notre Dame also benefits from a brand that employers often associate with school spirit, loyalty, and strong undergraduate preparation, which can be helpful in competitive recruiting.
Boston College makes a lot of sense for the student who wants excellent access to East Coast finance while being embedded in a major city during college. Carroll School of Management has a strong reputation, and BC students can tap into internships during the academic year more easily because of the Boston location. That can be a real advantage if you want hands-on experience early and see yourself staying in Boston after graduation.
If your main question is which school gives you the stronger finance platform overall, I would lean Notre Dame. If your priorities include Boston-based opportunities, semester-time internships, and a Northeast-centered network, Boston College becomes much more compelling. In employer perception, both are respected, but Notre Dame tends to carry slightly more national pull, while Boston College is especially potent in its home region.
