Which is harder to get into: Georgetown or Emory for undergraduate admissions?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Georgetown’s admissions process tends to be a bit more rigid and old-school, while Emory is also highly selective but usually seen as slightly less difficult overall. Georgetown requires more school-specific pieces, places a lot of weight on a demanding academic record, and has a distinct applicant pool because of its strength in politics, international relations, and business. Emory is absolutely tough to get into, but in broad terms Georgetown is more often viewed as the harder admit for undergraduate admissions.

Part of that comes from how Georgetown attracts a very self-selecting group of applicants, especially students targeting government, pre-law, foreign service, and policy-related paths. Its application structure has also historically been less simplified than many peer schools, and that can shape both who applies and how admissions reads files. The school has a very established identity, and applicants often apply with a clear purpose tied to one of its undergraduate schools.

Emory is still in the same high-selectivity tier for many students, especially because it draws strong applicants interested in pre-med, research, business, and the liberal arts. But when people compare the two side by side, Georgetown usually has the edge in perceived admissions difficulty. That does not mean Emory is meaningfully easy or predictable. For a strong applicant, both should be treated as reaches or at least very high-target schools depending on the rest of the profile.

So if the question is simply which one is harder to get into overall, Georgetown is the better answer. The gap is not enormous in every cycle, and selectivity can shift somewhat year to year, but Georgetown is more commonly regarded as the tougher undergraduate admit between the two.
