Is Florida or Washington better for computer science undergrad?

Washington is the stronger overall choice for computer science undergraduate study. The biggest reason is the direct connection to one of the country’s deepest tech job markets: Seattle gives students unusually strong access to software internships, part-time technical work, and networking with major employers during the school year, not just in the summer. For a CS student focused on recruiting and industry exposure, that ecosystem matters a lot.

The University of Washington in Seattle is also one of the most respected public-school CS programs in the country, with a strong reputation among employers and a dense local pipeline into software, cloud, AI, and product roles. That reputation is reinforced by the school’s location and by the volume of tech companies nearby, which makes career fairs, alumni connections, and internship timing more convenient than at most Florida options.

Florida has solid paths, especially through schools like UF, UCF, and USF, and it can be a very good value depending on cost. But as a state, it does not offer the same concentrated CS environment or the same level of nationally visible tech-industry proximity that Washington does. If the question is which state usually gives an undergrad CS student the stronger combination of program prestige, internship access, and job setup, Washington has the clearer edge.

One practical caveat is that some Washington programs, especially UW, can be very competitive for computer science placement or admission structure, so students need to understand exactly how entry into the major works.
