UC Irvine is a particularly good pick for a student who wants a denser local internship market and is likely to use campus recruiting, alumni, and nearby companies aggressively. Being near Irvine, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, and other OC business hubs makes it easier to attend networking events, interview in person, and sometimes keep an internship going during the semester. That can be a real advantage in tech, where one experience often leads to the next.

UC Riverside makes more sense for a student who expects to be highly self-directed and does not mind working harder to create opportunities. You can absolutely get strong internships from UCR, especially if you build projects, prepare well for technical interviews, and apply widely beyond campus.
