Which is better for internships: UC Davis or Boston University?

I’m trying to decide between UC Davis and Boston University, and internships are a big factor for me. I want a school where it’s realistic to find good internship opportunities and build experience while I’m in college.

I’m mostly asking which school tends to give students better access to internships overall and how that usually works out for undergrads.

The biggest practical tradeoff is location versus campus structure: Boston University puts you right in a major city where internships are woven into the school-year routine, while UC Davis gives you a more traditional college-campus experience but usually requires more planning, commuting, or summer timing to access the same volume of opportunities. For internships specifically, BU tends to have the easier day-to-day setup because students are in Boston, a city with strong options in healthcare, business, media, nonprofits, research, and tech. Davis students can absolutely get strong internships too, but many of the most convenient pipelines are tied to Sacramento, the Bay Area, university research, or summer roles rather than something a large share of students can do casually during the week.

At BU, one of the main advantages is that the city itself functions like an extension of campus. It is realistic for undergrads to intern during the semester, especially in fields where part-time placements matter. BU also has professional schools and employer connections that help in areas like communications, public health, business, policy, and lab-based work. The density of nearby employers makes exploration and networking simpler.

UC Davis is very solid for students interested in biology, agriculture, environmental work, veterinary-related paths, engineering, and research. Being close to the state capital helps for government and policy internships, and the UC system name carries weight. But compared with BU, the internship search often feels less built into everyday geography. For many students, getting the best off-campus experience means using summers strategically or being willing to travel beyond Davis.

If your priority is broad, convenient access to internships while classes are in session, Boston University has the clearer edge. UC Davis becomes especially compelling when your interests line up with its standout strengths, but on the narrower question of overall internship access for undergraduates, BU is the stronger bet.
