Is Boston College or NYU better for accounting?

I’m trying to figure out which school would be the stronger choice for accounting between Boston College and NYU. I’m a high school junior/senior and want to pick the option that would give me the better overall experience for studying accounting and preparing for a career in the field.

For accounting specifically, NYU usually has the edge because Stern is one of the most established undergraduate business schools in the country, and its New York City location gives you unusually direct access to major accounting firms, internships during the school year, and finance-oriented recruiting. Boston College is also a strong option, especially through the Carroll School of Management, but it tends to appeal more to students who want a traditional campus experience and a slightly less intense pre-professional atmosphere.

NYU fits the student who wants to be in the middle of the action from the start. If you like the idea of networking constantly, taking advantage of semester-time internships, and being surrounded by classmates who are very career-focused in business, Stern is hard to beat. For accounting, that matters because recruiting at the Big Four and related firms is heavily relationship-driven, and being in Manhattan can make informational interviews, office visits, and part-time experience much easier to build into college life.

Boston College makes more sense for someone who wants strong business preparation without giving up the feel of a classic residential college. Carroll has a good reputation with employers, especially in the Northeast, and BC places well into accounting and finance roles. The environment is often seen as more contained and community-oriented than NYU, which can be a real advantage if you want school spirit, a defined campus, and a student culture that is less centered on the city itself.

I would also think about how you learn and what kind of daily life you want. NYU can feel faster, more independent, and more urban, while BC can feel more cohesive and traditional. If your priority is maximum proximity to accounting recruiting and a very business-driven ecosystem, NYU stands out. If you want excellent accounting preparation in a more classic college setting, Boston College is a very credible path.
