Villanova vs Rutgers for finance careers: which school has stronger recruiting and alumni connections?

I’m trying to decide between Villanova and Rutgers and I’m interested in finance. I know both schools can get students into business roles, but I’m mostly wondering which one has stronger recruiting, alumni connections, and overall access to finance jobs after graduation.

I’m looking at this from the perspective of a current high school senior trying to choose a school that would give me the best path into finance.

Villanova has the clearer edge for finance careers, especially if you are thinking about front-office roles, stronger undergraduate recruiting pipelines, and a more tightly connected alumni network. Rutgers can absolutely lead to solid finance outcomes too, but the path is usually less concentrated and often requires more self-directed networking.

One concrete difference is campus recruiting. Villanova tends to draw more attention from firms that regularly hire business undergrads into finance-related roles, and the undergraduate business program is a central part of the school’s identity. That makes it easier for a student to plug into employer events, alumni panels, finance clubs, and internship pipelines early.

Another difference is the alumni network itself. Villanova’s network is not just strong on paper; it has a real reputation for being responsive and loyal, particularly within business. In finance, that matters because referrals, informational calls, and warm introductions often shape internship access well before full-time recruiting begins.

Rutgers does offer meaningful advantages, especially its location and scale. Being in New Jersey with access to New York can help, and there are plenty of successful Rutgers graduates in finance, accounting, and corporate roles. But because the university is much larger and less centered on a single undergraduate business culture, students often have to be more proactive to stand out and build the same kind of recruiting momentum.
