Is UVA or Notre Dame better for business undergrad?

I’m trying to decide between UVA and Notre Dame for business and keep seeing people rank them differently depending on what they care about. I’m mostly looking at the overall strength of the undergraduate business program and how well it sets students up for internships and jobs.

I want to understand which school is generally considered the better choice for business and why.

For undergraduate business, UVA usually has the stronger overall reputation because the McIntire School of Commerce is one of the most established and widely respected undergrad business programs in the country. It has especially strong placement into finance, consulting, and business roles, and its East Coast alumni network is a major advantage for internships and first jobs. Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business is also very well regarded, but it is often seen as a bit more values-driven and less singularly dominant in undergraduate business prestige than McIntire.

UVA tends to fit the student who wants a high-powered preprofessional environment with a lot of momentum around recruiting. McIntire is known for a very structured commerce curriculum and strong employer recognition, particularly among firms that already recruit heavily from the school. If your definition of “better” is strongest brand in undergraduate business circles and broad access to competitive business recruiting, UVA usually gets the edge.

Notre Dame makes the most sense for the student who wants a business education with a distinct campus culture and a very loyal alumni base. Mendoza is respected by employers, and Notre Dame’s network is famously responsive, especially in places where the alumni community is tight-knit. For some students, that combination of strong outcomes, smaller-feeling community, and mission-oriented culture matters more than pure business-school prestige.

If the question is which school is more often viewed as the top undergraduate business option on name strength and recruiting power, that answer is usually UVA. If the question is which one offers an excellent business education with especially strong community, alumni loyalty, and a distinctive campus ethos, Notre Dame has a very real case.
