Boston College vs Northeastern for internship opportunities: which is better?

I’m trying to decide between Boston College and Northeastern, and a big factor for me is getting solid internship opportunities as an undergrad.

I know both are in Boston, but I keep hearing that Northeastern is especially known for co-ops. I’m trying to understand which school generally gives students better access to internships and career experience.

For internship opportunities specifically, Northeastern generally has the stronger built-in advantage. Its co-op program is one of the school’s defining features. That structure usually makes it easier to get substantial resume experience early and often.

Northeastern’s system is designed around experiential learning, with dedicated co-op advising and long-standing employer relationships in Boston and beyond. Because co-ops are integrated into the academic calendar, students often take on roles that are deeper than a typical part-time semester internship. In fields like business, engineering, computer science, health, and communications, that can be a major plus.

Boston College can still offer very strong internship access, especially because of its location, alumni network, and recruiting strength in areas like finance, consulting, economics, education, and some parts of business. BC students do get internships in Boston during the school year and summer, and its alumni network is widely viewed as a real asset. But compared with Northeastern, the process is usually less built around formal work placements and more dependent on your own searching, networking, and timing.

So if your main priority is maximizing structured career experience as an undergrad, Northeastern is usually the better choice. If you care more about a traditional college experience with strong academics, school spirit, and solid but less systematized internship access, Boston College may still be the better overall fit.

A practical way to think about it is this: Northeastern tends to make career experience part of the curriculum, while Boston College gives you good access but expects more self-direction. For a student who wants the clearest pipeline to internships and work experience, Northeastern usually comes out ahead.
