Is UConn a good choice for an undecided major student?

I’m a high school senior and I’m still not sure what I want to study, so I’m looking at colleges that are flexible for undecided students. UConn is one of the schools I’m considering, but I don’t know how easy it is to explore different majors there before committing.

I’d like to know whether UConn is a good fit if you don’t have a clear major yet.

Yes, UConn can be a strong choice for an undecided student, especially because it has a formal exploratory path and a very broad range of majors. UConn offers the Academic Center for Exploratory Students, which is specifically designed for students who are still deciding, and the university has majors across schools like CLAS, Business, Engineering, Education, and Allied Health. That gives you real room to test interests before locking into one direction.

One of UConn’s better features for undecided students is that exploration is structured rather than left entirely up to you. ACES advising helps students compare majors, choose courses that keep options open, and work toward internal transfer requirements if they later want a more selective program. That matters because some majors at UConn, especially in Business, Engineering, Nursing, and certain allied health areas, are more competitive or have course sequencing that can make late entry harder.

The short answer is: UConn is flexible, but it is most flexible if you start exploring early and pay attention to prerequisites. If you think you might want a restricted major, you would want to plan your first-year schedule carefully so you do not fall behind.

For students who are genuinely undecided among several academic areas, UConn is a good fit because its size creates options. You can try classes in different departments, and the advising structure is better than at schools where undecided students are just loosely assigned a general advisor. The main caution is that being undecided works best there when you are open-minded but still proactive.
