How does Louisiana State University business school admissions work for undergraduates?

I’m a high school junior trying to understand how the business school admission process works at LSU. I know some colleges admit students directly into the university but have separate requirements for the business major.

I’m mostly trying to figure out whether you apply to the business school right away or enter first and apply later.

At LSU, undergraduate business students typically apply to the university first, not through a separate freshman application to the business school. If you are admitted to LSU and indicate a business major, you generally start as a pre-business or business-intended student and then move into the major after meeting the college’s progression requirements. In other words, it is not usually a separate direct-admit process like at some universities.

For freshmen, the key step is admission to LSU itself. Once enrolled, students in the E. J. Ourso College of Business complete the required foundation coursework and must meet the college’s academic standards to continue into an upper-level business major such as finance, accounting, marketing, or management.

Those progression requirements usually involve completing specific introductory courses, maintaining the required GPA, and satisfying any college rules for entry into the major. The exact classes and GPA threshold can vary a bit by major, so it is smart to check the current LSU catalog for the business program you want.

If you are a high school junior planning ahead, the practical takeaway is this: you generally do not need to worry about a separate freshman application just for LSU business. You apply to LSU, list your intended major in business, and then, after enrolling, complete the internal requirements to officially progress within the E. J. Ourso College of Business.

One thing to watch is that some business majors can have additional academic standards beyond the general college requirements. So the main admissions hurdle is LSU admission first, then successful completion of LSU’s business progression process after you arrive on campus.
