What AP courses are most important for University of Hawaii admission?
I’m a high school junior trying to plan my classes for college applications. I know some schools care more about rigor than the exact APs you take, but I’m wondering what University of Hawaii tends to value most in an applicant’s course load.
I want to make sure I’m choosing AP classes that actually strengthen my application instead of just taking random ones.

For University of Hawaii admission, there usually is not a single set of “most important” AP classes. What matters most is that your schedule is rigorous in the core academic subjects, especially English, math, laboratory science, social studies, and a world language when available. In practice, AP classes that align with those areas, like AP English Language or Literature, AP Calculus or Statistics, AP Biology, Chemistry, or Physics, AP U.S. History or Government, and AP language courses, tend to strengthen an application more than unrelated APs taken just for the label.
If you think you may apply to engineering, computer science, business, or health-related programs, AP Calculus and a lab science are especially helpful. If you are more humanities or social science focused, AP English and AP history or government can carry more weight. The best AP choices are usually the ones that both fit your strengths and show progression in the main academic areas.
A balanced schedule is better than stacking too many APs that hurt your grades. For UH, solid grades in challenging core classes will usually matter more than taking a random AP elective that does not connect to your academic preparation. If your school offers only a limited AP selection, taking the hardest reasonable core courses available is still the right move.
