How important is class rank for University of Hawaii admissions?
I’m applying to the University of Hawaii and trying to understand how much class rank matters in the admissions review. My school does rank students, but I’m not near the very top of my class.
I want to know whether class rank is a major factor there or if other parts of the application carry more weight.

Class rank is usually not a major make-or-break factor for University of Hawaii admissions. If your school reports rank, UH can consider it as part of your academic context, but being outside the very top of your class does not by itself put you out of contention.
In practice, UH Manoa pays more attention to whether you completed the required college preparatory courses and how strong your grades are in those classes. A solid GPA in a reasonably challenging schedule usually matters more than an impressive rank alone, especially since class rank can vary a lot from school to school.
If your rank is modest but your GPA is strong, that is usually the more useful signal. And if your school’s ranking system is especially competitive or compressed, admissions readers generally understand that rank is not always a clean comparison across different high schools.
For most applicants, the best way to think about it is that class rank is a secondary data point, not the center of the decision. The core question is whether your transcript shows consistent academic preparation for UH.
