What should be on my UVA application checklist for a strong application?

I’m a high school junior starting to plan my college applications, and UVA is one of the schools I’m seriously considering. I want to make sure I’m organizing everything I’ll need in a way that makes the process less stressful.

I’m looking for a basic checklist of the main parts of a UVA application so I can keep track of what matters most and not forget anything important.

For a strong UVA application, your checklist should center on academics first, then the required application pieces, then any optional items that actually add value. UVA looks closely at course rigor, grades through junior year, and how well you use the opportunities available at your school.

A practical checklist would include: your completed application form, UVA-specific questions in the application, your high school transcript, senior year course schedule, counselor recommendation and school report.

If you have AP, IB, or dual enrollment coursework, make sure those classes appear clearly on your transcript because UVA values a challenging curriculum.

Your activities list and honors section should be treated as core parts of the application, not afterthoughts. Keep a clean record of leadership, work, family responsibilities, service, research, arts, athletics, or other sustained commitments, and describe impact clearly and specifically.

For deadlines, build your own timeline for the application deadline, recommendation requests, transcript submission, and financial aid forms. If you plan to apply for need-based aid, include the FAFSA and any UVA-required financial aid documents on your checklist as well.

A smart final section of the checklist is quality control: review spelling, make sure your academic interests and activities make sense together, confirm recommenders have enough time, and double-check that every required section is submitted in the portal.
