What academic programs is George Mason University best known for?

I’m a high school junior trying to narrow down colleges, and George Mason keeps coming up in my search. I know it has a lot of different majors, but I’m not sure which academic areas it is especially strong in.

I want to understand what programs the university is best known for before I look more closely at it.

George Mason University is especially well known for public policy, government and international affairs, economics, business, computer science, engineering, and psychology. Its location in Fairfax, close to Washington, DC, gives students strong access to internships and careers tied to federal agencies, nonprofits, research groups, and major employers. Mason is also recognized for law, public health, conflict analysis and resolution, and data- or tech-related fields.

A few standout schools and programs help define its reputation. The Schar School of Policy and Government is one of Mason’s best-known academic hubs, particularly for political science, public administration, international security, and public policy. The Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution is one of the more distinctive programs you will not find at every large public university.

In STEM, Mason has a strong profile in computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, and engineering. That is partly because of its ties to the Northern Virginia tech corridor, where many students find internships and jobs. Its business school is also well regarded, especially in fields like accounting, finance, business analytics, and management.
