What are the best majors at the University of Vermont?

I’m a high school junior starting to narrow down colleges, and UVM is one of the schools on my list. I keep seeing different opinions about which majors are strongest there, so I’m trying to get a clearer picture.

I want to know which majors have the best reputation, resources, or outcomes at UVM.

At the University of Vermont, some of the strongest and most well-known majors are business, health sciences, nursing, environmental studies, engineering, and the life sciences. UVM has a strong reputation in areas connected to its location and mission, especially sustainability, environmental science, and public health-related fields. The Grossman School of Business is one of the school’s better-known programs, and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences is also a major strength.

If you want majors with especially visible resources and outcomes, look closely at nursing, biomedical sciences, environmental studies, animal and veterinary-related sciences, and business. UVM’s proximity to Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks gives it a real advantage for environmental research and hands-on fieldwork. The university also has strong connections in health care and a solid emphasis on experiential learning, internships, and undergraduate research.

Engineering is another area worth considering, especially if you want a school that combines a public-university feel with close faculty access. UVM is not usually known as a top-tier engineering powerhouse in the national sense, but its programs are respected and practical. If you’re interested in pre-med or health-professions pathways, UVM also has a good reputation for supporting students through advising, research, and clinical opportunities.
