What are the best majors at Michigan State for a business career?

I’m a high school junior trying to figure out what to study in college if I want a business career. Michigan State is on my list, but I’m not sure which majors actually help the most for jobs in business.

I’m mainly trying to understand which Michigan State majors are considered the strongest options for business-related careers.

At Michigan State, the strongest major for a traditional business career is usually a major inside the Eli Broad College of Business, especially Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Marketing, and Management. Those programs are the most directly aligned with recruiting for corporate roles, consulting, financial services, operations, and brand or sales positions.

If you want the most broadly useful business path, Finance and Accounting are often the safest choices because they open doors in banking, corporate finance, audit, tax, and FP&A. Supply Chain Management is another standout at MSU and is one of the school’s signature strengths, with excellent job placement in logistics, manufacturing, retail, and operations. Marketing and Management can also lead to strong business careers, but they usually benefit more from internships and a clear specialization.

If you want a business career but also want a backup plan or a more technical edge, majors like Economics, Information Technology, or Data Science can pair well with business goals. For example, Economics can be a good fit for consulting, policy, or finance, while a data-focused major can help with analytics roles in business. Michigan State also lets students build business-relevant experience through student orgs, case competitions, and internship pipelines, which matters a lot alongside the major itself.
