What housing options are available if I take summer classes at a community college?
I’m a high school student looking at taking summer classes at a community college that’s not close to where I live. I’m trying to figure out what kinds of housing students usually use in this situation.
Most of what I’ve found online is about four-year colleges with dorms, so I’m not sure what’s typical for community colleges during the summer.

Most community colleges do not have traditional dorms, so summer students usually rely on off-campus options. The most common arrangements are staying with family or friends nearby, short-term apartment or room rentals, extended-stay hotels, or commuter-style housing if the college has a partnership with a local property. For high school students, the biggest factor is often age, since many landlords and hotels will not rent directly to someone under 18 without a parent or guardian involved.
Your first step should be to check the specific community college’s housing page and contact admissions or student services directly. Even colleges without dorms sometimes keep lists of local rentals, homestays, or nearby apartment complexes that regularly work with students.
If you are under 18, ask specifically whether the college allows minors to enroll in that summer term and whether they offer any supervised housing options. In many cases, the college will not provide housing at all and will expect your family to arrange it.
