Do I need to submit a community college transcript for summer classes on college applications?

I’m a high school student planning to take a couple of summer classes at a local community college, and I’m confused about how that gets reported when I apply to colleges.

I want to know whether those courses usually require an official community college transcript in addition to my high school transcript, or if they are normally just listed on my application.

Yes, in most cases you should expect to report those community college summer classes on your applications and later send an official community college transcript to any college that asks for one. Even if the courses also appear on your high school transcript, colleges often want the original transcript from the college that awarded the credit.

On the application itself, you should usually list the community college in the colleges-attended or coursework section if the classes generated a real college transcript. Do not assume that having the course on your high school transcript is enough.

If the class was noncredit, enrichment-only, or did not create an official college record, then it usually would not require a college transcript.
