How do William & Mary study abroad programs work for undergraduates?

I’m looking at William & Mary and I’m really interested in studying abroad at some point in college. I’m trying to understand how their study abroad programs are usually structured for undergrads, like whether students typically go through William & Mary programs, exchange programs, or outside providers.

I want to get a clearer picture of how it generally works before I get too attached to the idea of going there.

William & Mary has a lot of study abroad options for undergraduates, and students usually go abroad in one of three main ways: William & Mary faculty-led programs, exchange or partner university programs, and approved third-party provider programs. The Reves Center for International Studies is the main office that oversees study abroad and helps students with program selection, approvals, and credit.

Faculty-led programs are often short-term, and they are taught by William & Mary faculty. These can be a good fit if you want a more structured experience and courses that are already closely tied to W&M academics.

Exchange and partner programs are usually the most direct way to study at another university while remaining connected to William & Mary. On these programs, students typically take courses abroad that can be reviewed for transfer or major credit, depending on the department.

Credit approval matters a lot, especially if you want classes to count toward your major or minor, so students usually work with both the Reves Center and academic departments before going abroad.
