How can a high school student build a strong application for Emory University?

I’m a junior and Emory is one of the schools I’m really interested in, but I’m not totally sure what makes an applicant stand out there.

I’m trying to figure out what kinds of academics, activities, and overall profile would make someone a good fit for Emory so I can focus my time in the right places.

To build a strong application for Emory, focus first on academic rigor, strong grades, and a clear pattern of meaningful involvement outside class. It is also a highly selective school, so standing out usually comes from depth, impact, and fit, not from having the longest resume.

As a junior, the biggest priority is your transcript. Emory pays close attention to the strength of your coursework in the context of your high school, so take the most challenging classes you can handle well, especially in core subjects. Strong reading and writing skills matter there, and if you are interested in a specific area like public health, business, neuroscience, or the humanities, it helps to show that interest through your classes and related activities.

For activities, Emory tends to value sustained commitment and contribution. Community engagement can also fit well with Emory’s culture, especially if your involvement is genuine and long term rather than something added just for applications.

Your essays should make it easy to picture how you would contribute to Emory’s community. The strongest responses usually connect your values, academic interests, and way of engaging with others to specific aspects of Emory, such as its interdisciplinary academics, research opportunities, Atlanta location, or service-oriented culture.
