What are Dartmouth's general application requirements for undergraduate admission?

I'm starting my college list and trying to understand what Dartmouth usually expects in a freshman application beyond just grades and test scores.

I want a clear overview of the main pieces of the application so I can plan ahead without relying on year-specific details.

Dartmouth’s freshman application typically includes the main Common Application or Coalition Application components, plus Dartmouth-specific writing supplements. In addition to your basic personal information, activities list, and personal essay, you should expect at least one school-specific short response.

You will also need your high school transcript, which shows your courses and grades, and a school report submitted by your counselor. Dartmouth usually expects a counselor recommendation and two teacher recommendations, often from core academic subjects.

Standardized testing policies can change by cycle, so treat testing as something to verify for the year you apply rather than assuming it will stay the same.

Dartmouth also considers your extracurricular involvement, summer experiences, work, family responsibilities, and other commitments through the activities section and additional information section if needed. If you have a meaningful context behind your academic record, such as a limited course selection at your school or a major responsibility outside class, that is worth explaining clearly.

There is usually an application fee, with fee waivers available for eligible students.
