How strong is the Colgate alumni network for career opportunities after graduation?

I’m looking at Colgate and trying to figure out how much the alumni network actually helps once you’re applying for jobs and internships.

I go to a public high school and do not have many family connections, so I’m especially interested in whether Colgate alumni are responsive and useful for career networking in a real, practical way.

Colgate’s alumni network is generally considered a real strength, especially for a school its size. The alumni base is known for being loyal and engaged, and that can matter a lot when you are looking for internships, informational interviews, and first-job connections without family networks.

In practical terms, Colgate tends to do well because alumni often feel a strong attachment to the school and are willing to respond to students and recent grads. That does not mean every outreach turns into an opportunity, but students often find alumni open to conversations, referrals, and advice in fields like finance, consulting, media, education, law, and healthcare.

One advantage of a smaller university is that the network can feel more personal. If you reach out thoughtfully, mention a shared Colgate connection, and ask specific questions, you are more likely to get a response than if you send generic cold messages to strangers.

That said, the network is not magic. It tends to be strongest when you actively use it by attending events, building relationships with professors and alumni, joining student organizations, and reaching out early rather than waiting until senior year.
