What majors and academic options does American University offer for undergraduates?

I'm starting my college list and American University seems interesting, but I'm not sure how broad its undergraduate academics are beyond politics and international relations.

I'm trying to figure out what major options it has and whether students can explore different fields before settling on one.

American University has a fairly broad undergraduate academic range, even though it is best known for politics, public affairs, and international studies.

Undergraduates can choose from majors across business, communication, education, arts, humanities, social sciences, public health, and some STEM fields. Academic homes include schools like the School of International Service, School of Public Affairs, Kogod School of Business, School of Communication, College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Education.

Some of the more visible majors include international studies, political science, public relations, journalism, business administration, finance, economics, psychology, public health, environmental science, data science, computer science, biology, neuroscience, and various arts and language fields. There are also interdisciplinary options, which is useful if your interests cross categories.

American also offers minors, certificates, and combined or double-major possibilities depending on the program.

AU’s strongest depth is still in areas tied to government, policy, global affairs, communication, and social sciences. It does offer STEM, but if you want a very engineering-heavy or large lab-science environment, that is not really its core identity.
