Is Tufts or Fordham better for studying business?

The biggest practical tradeoff is a dedicated undergraduate business school and New York City access at Fordham versus Tufts’ broader liberal-arts-based route into business-related careers. Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business offers established undergraduate majors such as finance, accounting, marketing, business analytics, and global business, with recruiting and internship opportunities tied closely to the city. Tufts does not have a traditional undergraduate business major or business school; students commonly pursue economics, quantitative economics, applied mathematics, engineering, or entrepreneurial studies alongside internships.

Tufts can be compelling for business-adjacent paths that benefit from interdisciplinary study. Its economics department, entrepreneurship programming, strong undergraduate research culture, and proximity to Boston’s technology, biotech, venture, and consulting ecosystems can support careers in consulting, startups, product roles, analytics, and graduate business school. A Tufts student interested in finance or consulting would need to be more intentional about selecting quantitative courses, pursuing internships, and building a business-focused resume because the degree itself will not be labeled business.

For studying business specifically and entering business recruiting with the clearest built-in structure, Fordham is the stronger fit. Choose Tufts only if you prefer its wider academic environment and are comfortable creating a business-focused path through economics, quantitative work, entrepreneurship, and experience outside the classroom.
