Which offers better New York City internship and career opportunities: Tufts or Fordham?

The main tradeoff is daily, in-semester access versus a broader but less New York-centered network: Fordham puts you in New York City throughout the academic year, while Tufts offers strong national reach from the Boston area. At Fordham, students can pursue internships during fall and spring, attend employer events in the city, and build relationships with New York alumni without arranging a summer relocation. Its Rose Hill and Lincoln Center campuses also create different forms of access, with Lincoln Center especially convenient for Manhattan-based industries.

Fordham has particularly practical advantages for students aiming at New York finance, business, media, communications, nonprofit, government, and law-related paths. Being able to commute to an internship two or three days a week can lead to longer-term roles, references, and a clearer local résumé before graduation.

Tufts should not be viewed as closed off from New York. It has a well-regarded, nationally distributed alumni community, and many students spend summers interning in New York or move there after graduation. Tufts can be especially compelling if its academic offerings, intellectual environment, or opportunities in fields such as international relations, public health, research, technology, or consulting fit you substantially better. However, most school-year experiential opportunities will be centered in Greater Boston, so New York involvement requires more deliberate planning.

Choose Tufts over Fordham only if you have a meaningful academic or campus-fit reason to prefer Tufts and are comfortable using summers, alumni outreach, and occasional travel to create your New York connections.
