For U.S. medical school, UCSD is the more straightforward choice. Its quarter system can feel fast, and its science courses are demanding, so protecting a strong GPA requires careful course planning. Still, you would have accessible faculty labs, a major academic medical center, and a campus environment where many students are pursuing health professions.

McGill can be a compelling option if you are genuinely open to Canada for medical school or want a research-intensive undergraduate experience. However, admission to Canadian medical schools is highly constrained, with opportunities and eligibility often tied to provincial residency and citizenship or permanent-resident status. A U.S. citizen studying at McGill can apply to U.S. medical schools, but should plan early for U.S.-based clinical exposure, recommendation letters, and any course-specific requirements.
