The biggest day-to-day difference is that USC’s Los Angeles climate makes outdoor campus life workable for most of the academic year, while Northeastern’s Boston winters regularly shift socializing, commuting, and events indoors. At USC, students can comfortably use the lawns, patios, outdoor dining areas, and nearby Los Angeles attractions through much of the fall, winter, and spring. Northeastern has a pleasant, walkable urban campus, especially in early fall and late spring, but cold temperatures, snow, wind, and shorter winter days are a real part of the experience.

At Northeastern, campus life does not stop in winter, but students tend to plan around the weather: layering for walks between classes, using indoor spaces more often, and choosing indoor events or residence-hall gatherings. The campus is compact and has some interior connections between buildings, which helps, but students still spend time outside getting to class.
