Is MIT or Stevens better for getting internships in New York?

For a student focused specifically on interning in New York City during the academic year, Stevens has the more practical built-in advantage. Its Hoboken campus is directly across the Hudson from Manhattan, making part-time, semester-long, and in-person networking opportunities far easier to manage.

MIT is likely to open doors with employers nationwide. Its name recognition, deeply established alumni community, and on-campus recruiting can make an MIT applicant competitive for NYC roles even without being local. For summer internships, when students can relocate, MIT’s distance from New York matters much less.

Choose MIT if you want the broadest national and international recruiting reach, a highly research-intensive engineering environment, and access to elite opportunities beyond New York as well as within it. Stevens is especially compelling for someone who wants New York to be an active part of college life from the first year and values the logistical edge of being able to commute into the city regularly. Neither school guarantees an internship, but Stevens’ location is a real advantage for NYC-based experiential work; MIT’s advantage is the scale and reach of its overall employer reputation and alumni network.
