What are the best colleges for undergraduate business and finance if I want strong academics and good job placement?

I’m a high school junior starting to build my college list, and I know I want to study business or finance. I’m trying to figure out which colleges are especially strong for those majors, not just overall prestige.

I care a lot about internship opportunities, recruiting, and whether graduates do well finding jobs in finance or business after college.

If you want strong academics plus strong recruiting, a few schools consistently stand out for undergraduate business and finance.

For finance specifically, University of Pennsylvania Wharton is one of the strongest options in the country. NYU Stern is also excellent, especially for internships and recruiting because of its New York City location. Michigan Ross, UC Berkeley Haas, Virginia McIntire, Cornell Dyson, and Indiana Kelley are also very well regarded and place students well into banking, consulting, and corporate roles.

If you want a true undergraduate business school with broad strength across finance, accounting, marketing, and management, top options include Wharton, Michigan Ross, Berkeley Haas, Virginia McIntire, Carnegie Mellon Tepper, UNC Kenan-Flagler, UT Austin McCombs, Emory Goizueta, Notre Dame Mendoza, and Indiana Kelley.

For finance and business careers, some colleges without undergraduate business majors are still outstanding because of recruiting strength. Schools like Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Duke, Columbia, Northwestern, Chicago, and Georgetown send a lot of students into finance, consulting, and related fields through economics, math, or other majors.

When building your list, I’d compare four things for each school: whether you are admitted directly to business, internship access during the school year, major employers that recruit on campus, and first-destination career outcomes.
